Series: Book #1 In the Rebel Belle series

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.

This book was absolutely amazing!!! It covered so many aspects. You's expect from the cover that this book would be extremely girly and it has bits of that it is also very action packed. For a book that involves guardians and fighting and death it was actually hilarious"I picked up the nearest weapon I could lay my hands on: a stapler. I lifted it, going for “menacing.” I admit it lacked a certain elegance, but hey. It was worth a shot. David placed his hand on my arm and pushed it back down.“What?” “Just . . . that’s embarrassing for all of us,” he replied." There were moments when it went from sweet fuzzy feelings to straight on action and it was straight up hilarious "just . . . I don’t like crying girls, okay?” We were quiet for a second while I took that in. “That was very nice of you, David,” I finally said. “Now hold on because I’m about to drive into a fence.” “Yeah, okay,” he muttered, his eyes still closed. “You do that.” Then his eyes shot open. “Wait, what?"

The main character Harper goes from being to the homecoming queen to a action packed paladin and her character really develops in many ways. She realizes that every thing is not going to go her way and in the end she accepts that and learns to accept people. In the beginning she hates David. "He and I had loathed each other since kindergarten. Heck, even before that. Mom says he’s the only baby I ever bit in daycare." but she learns to move past her hate for him. I mean who wouldn't he David he is absolutely adorable, I'm absolutely in love with how smart and quirky he is it's a change from our usual main "perfect guy" lead. "Look at him. Whole life turned upside down, and he’s in there making pizza rolls." I mean common.  You really grow to love all the characters and the story throughout the book and I highly recommend it.

All in all I give this book a 4/5 stars.
